Crestor (AstraZeneca) wins first European approval in the Netherlands

AstraZeneca, the multinational pharmaceuticals firm, said its cholesterol treatment Crestor was approved for sale in the Netherlands, paving the way for clearance in the rest of Europe. Under Europe's mutual recognition procedure, the medicine will be approved in 16 other European countries beginning in the first half of 2003. The worldwide market for cholesterol-reducing drugs is worth more than € 18.000 million, and is growing at 20 % percent a year. (source: Bloomberg)
