| Fortis, the U.S. insurance unit of Dutch-Belgian banking group Fortis, is looking at potential takeover targets in the United States over the long term. The bank said it wanted to be the market leader in the four insurance niches Fortis was present in the United States, namely credit, health, funeral and handicap. Fortis said it would focus on the consolidation of its previous acquisitions but that after that acquisitions are a priority because in the insurance market advantages of scale are very important. Fortis Inc. reported a first-half operational profit of € 166 million, a rise of 33 % on the year. |
