Belgian IT companies link up for a more democratic use of the internet.

Dolmen, the Huizingen based computer applications specialist, and 15 other Belgian ICT companies have formed a consortium aimed at promoting a more democratic use of the internet. The consortium aims at convincing the government to give households legal and financial incentives in order to generalize the use of the internet. The 16 say the purchase of IT material should become deductible for tax purposes, while minorities should be enabled to use computers at very low cost. The consortium includes: Alcatel, Apple, Belgacom, Colruyt, Dolmen, Econocom, Electrabel, Elsevier Training, Fortis, HP-Compaq, KBC, Siemens, Systemat, Telenet en Versatel.
