Corus calls off Brazilian merger |

| Corus Group, the Anglo-Dutch steelmaker, has called off its proposed merger with Brazilian peer Companhia Siderurgica Nacional in the face of uncertain global markets. The loss-making group CSL said demand for steel products in its core UK and European markets was not at the level the group expected in September, and the second-half recovery would be less strong than anticipated. Corus said that despite the strong strategic rationale for the merger, uncertainties in the global business environment and financial markets had led the board to walk away from the deal. |
