the Italian-Swiss steelmaker, Cockerill Sambre, the Belgian subsidiary of French steelconcern Usinor and the Walloon Region have announced their intention to create a joint venture that will operate Cockerill’s Charleroi based smelting furnace and the related facilities, which were in danger of becoming redundant. The total investment is estimated at 80 million euros and will be paid for by the three parties.
