Exmar (CMB) unscathed by Enron bankruptcy.

Exmar, CMB’s gas tanker division, with liquefied natural gas (LNG)carriers chartered to bankrupt energy trader Enron, said in an interview with the Lloyds Register that the escapade would leave it financially unscathed. Enron, which filed for Chapter 11 protection late last year, in May 2000 agreed to charter Exmar's first newbuilding Excalibur, expected this year. Exmar said Enron's Chapter 11 process had thrown up six serious bidders for the bankrupt energy trader and that some of the interested parties were keen on short-term employment for the ship, but the company is keen to secure long-term coverage on the newbuilding, anywhere from 10 to 20 years. Exmar is one of the largest independent operators of gas tankers in the world commercially controlling a diversified fleet of 50 ships ranging from 138,000 cubic metres LNG carriers down to 1,600 cubic metres pressurised LPG carriers. Of these 7 are LNG carriers.
