Cereol

Cereol, a vegetable oil producer part of Italian group Montedison that owns the Lesieur brand, will close its Utrecht plant in May due to security and environment problems. Cereol said the plant, employing 60 people, was within a residential area in the centre of Utrecht, and that local authorities had been requesting the closure for 20 years, following problems of smells, noise and security due to the presence of trucks in the town. The company said it was likely to lose the market served by the plant to its main competitors, U.S. agricultural giants Cargill and Archer Daniels Midland, which both have big crushing factories in the Netherlands.
