Interbrew to raise Belgian beer prices

Interbrew, the Leuven based beer group, said that higher malt prices will force it to increase beer prices in Belgium by 2.5% from Jan. 15. Interbrew said the worldwide price of malt - the key ingredient in beer - increased by more than 20% between July and October as droughts in the U.S. and Australia created a worldwide shortage. Interbrew Belgium may introduce further price hikes if the cost of barley continues to rise. The increase of malt prices could eventually affect the global beer market. (source: Dow Jones newswires)
